John Locke was conned by his father and ended up losing his LEFT kidney. Locke never got over this and felt greatly betrayed by his father, who turned out to be a con artist. HOWEVER, it was fate that John Locke was to lose his kidney to save his life later. There are much higher powers at work when it comes to John Locke, as I will explain later this week.
As you can see, Ben shot Locke in the area where his left kidney WOULD be. Clearly Locke will survive and heal quickly based on there not being a kidney where the wound is!
